We have a civics collapse that is extreme locally and poor nationally and we see in the voter turnout a continuing apathy. We see a decline in the work ethic by workers, and the selling out of US interests by the corporate giants. <br />My sad opinion is that we no longer have the national character and societal seed corn to turn around, at least in the short to medium term. Our relative material comfort is the only thing keeping social order and this is slipping. If we had the brains and moral fiber we would return to our roots, the roots of faith, democracy (the real thing, not a shadow), free enterprise and personal responsibility. I hope I am wrong, but I don't think the public has been kicked to the curb yet and the sad Hickory election, both with no contestants for offices and the turnout shows that we are still in the bread and circuses phase.
